The Dangote Refinery is set for a major upgrade, increasing its capacity from 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 700,000 bpd. Key details include:

– A 50,000 bpd capacity boost expected by the end of Q4 2025.
– The Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracking unit is currently operating at 85% capacity due to ongoing work.
– Upon completion, it will surpass South Korea’s Onsan Refinery as the world’s sixth-largest refinery.
– The refinery sources 55% of its crude oil from the US, having purchased 19 million barrels in June and July alone.

Aliko Dangote expressed confidence in the upgrade’s success, despite acknowledging the project’s complexities, noting that building a refinery is far more challenging than building a house.
