The United States government has reportedly permanently revoked the visa of Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, in what he has described as a move that appears politically motivated and targeted.
According to a report by Leadership Newspaper, Professor Soyinka made the revelation during a media parley held in Lagos on Tuesday, October 28, where he expressed concern and disappointment over the development. He disclosed that he received an official letter from the U.S. authorities on Thursday, October 23, informing him that his visa had been permanently revoked.
Speaking at the event, the celebrated playwright and social critic suggested that the action might be connected to his outspoken criticism of former U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration’s policies. Soyinka, who has long been an advocate for justice, democracy, and freedom of expression, remarked that the decision felt like a form of political witch-hunt against dissenting voices.
The incident has since sparked conversations among political observers and members of the literary community, many of whom view the revocation as a concerning signal of intolerance toward critical perspectives, especially from prominent intellectuals like Professor Soyinka.
